Why We Built This Site
Public access in Virginia does not place every criminal record in one database. The Sussex County Sheriff maintains local arrest, booking, and incident material. General District Court holds adult misdemeanor cases and felony preliminary records, while Circuit Court holds felony prosecutions and misdemeanor appeals. The Virginia Department of State Police Criminal Justice Information Services Division operates the Central Criminal Records Exchange, with civil requests administered through the Civil & Applicant Records Exchange. The Virginia Department of Corrections and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry cover still narrower subjects. Bringing the verified contacts, access limits, forms, and request paths together makes that divided system easier to navigate.

What We Cannot Do
This resource is privately run and has no affiliation with Sussex County, a Virginia court, the Sheriff's Office, VSP, or any other government body. Its role is limited to general reference information.
- It cannot retrieve an official criminal history or perform an official background check
- It cannot submit a VFOIA request, expungement petition, or sealing filing for a visitor
- It cannot produce a certified disposition, court document, booking record, or CCRE response
- It cannot offer legal advice about a charge, warrant, conviction, or eligibility for record relief
- It cannot promise that an agency's hours, fees, staff, or procedures have not changed
An official copy must come from its custodian, such as the Sussex County Sheriff, the appropriate court clerk, or VSP CCRE/CARE.
Search Partners
Some pages contain search tools supplied by independent providers. A provider controls its own service, results, prices, and data practices. If a visitor follows a tool to a paid service, this site may receive a referral fee that helps support free access to the reference material. Sussex County Criminal History does not set the provider's charges and does not control its records or matching methods.
